Cirano Tondi confirmed as CONI Delegate for Switzerland in the renewal of Foreign Delegates
With resolution no. 313 of 29 October 2025, the National Council (Giunta Nazionale) led by new president Luciano Buonfiglio renewed the mandates of CONI's Foreign Delegates for the 2025-2028 Olympic period. The Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) has renewed its network of Foreign Delegates for the new 2025-2028 Olympic period. With resolution no. 313 of 29 October 2025, the National Council, led by president Luciano Buonfiglio, elected on 26 June 2025, confirmed the mandates in countries with a significant Italian community. For Switzerland, the role of CONI Foreign Delegate was confirmed to Dr Cirano Tondi. The appointment was communicated directly by president Buonfiglio, who emphasised that through this mandate CONI will be able to nurture young Italian talents abroad and strengthen the promotion of the "Sistema Paese", the subject of the memorandum of understanding with the MAECI, the Ministry of Sport and the CIP. The mandate, voluntary and unpaid, runs for the 2025-2028 Olympic period. As CONI Delegate for Switzerland, Cirano Tondi will be responsible for promoting sporting culture and practice among young Italian and Italian-Swiss generations, supporting emerging talents and fostering collaboration with Italian institutions in the country, from consulates to the Com.It.Es, from managing bodies to Italian schools, as well as with local sports organisations. The operational contact for Switzerland is delegato.svizzera@coni.it. As set out in the Regulations of the Italian Communities Abroad (CIE), the mandate is reserved for Italian citizens residing abroad, identified by CONI, who possess the human, technical and professional qualities needed to promote sporting culture and organise youth sports promotion in countries with a strong and stable Italian presence. The renewal concerns the seven Foreign Delegates established by CONI in the main countries of Italian emigration: Argentina: Dr Pablo Hugo Squillari Australia: Dr Francesco Giacobbe Brazil: Cav. Alfredo Apicella Canada: Cav. Domenico Servello United States: Cav. Mico Licastro and Prof. Federiga Bindi (Colorado) Switzerland: Dr Cirano Tondi Venezuela: Cav. Nello Collevecchio www.coni.it/it/comunita-italiane-all-estero.html The Delegates' activity is part of a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) for permanent collaboration in spreading sporting culture and practice and promoting the "Sistema Paese", through meetings and sports events for Italian communities abroad, such as the National Sports Day and the Trofeo CONI, in its summer and winter editions. Since 2023, the sports delegations of Italian communities abroad taking part in the Trofeo CONI have had the opportunity not only to compete in the disciplines of the official programme, but also to rediscover, as "travellers of their roots", their family history by visiting the places of origin of their ancestors. Their presence thus combines sport and culture, in connection with the "Turismo delle Radici" project promoted by the MAECI Directorate General for Italians Abroad. With the renewal of the mandates, CONI confirms its commitment to strengthening the bond between Italy and Italian communities around the world, in the name of sport, inclusion and Italian excellence. For Switzerland, the confirmation of Dr Cirano Tondi ensures continuity in promoting sport and nurturing young Italian-Swiss talents across the country.
